Hello, my name is Dawn York and I am the School Counselor at Southport Elementar.y I am here to help all students with issues that may be affecting their academics, career and personal/social interactions.  

 As the School Counselor at Southport Elementary, I can help students with:

 *Promoting positive attitudes among students toward self, family, peers, and community.

*Developing and delivery classroom guidance lessons that teach skills on problem solving, resolving conflicts, manners, and respecting others.

*Providing support during a personal crisis

*Working with teacher/parent/student with academic and/or behavioral struggles

*Coordinating referrals to outside agencies

*Helping to create a safe and positive learning experience.

How Students Can See The Counselor:

•  Individual Counseling

Students may let their teacher know that they would like to speak with me. Students may also meet with the counselor if their parents, teacher, or administrative staff refer them.

• Small Group Counseling

Students will be placed in small groups when common needs arise.

• Classroom Guidance/Large Group Counseling

Guidance classes are taught monthly to each homeroom.
