Hello and welcome to my page! I have been teaching high school English since 2000. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in English and Communication Studies from UNC Charlotte and a Master's Degree in Literacy and Culture from Longwood University. I teach English II, English III, and English IV, Freshman Seminar, and I advise the yearbook staff.
All of the English courses taught at BCECHS are taught in one semester. In the fall, freshmen typically take College English Prep, which is designed to prepare students to write for the accelerated high school and college courses they will take at this school. In the spring, they will take Honors English I.
Sophomores take Honors English III in the fall and Honors English II in the spring. The courses build off of each other and will prepare students to take the English II EOC test in the spring as well as develop the reading comprehension and writing skills necessary in college-level courses.
Students take Honors English IV the year they graduate. A major component of the course is the graduation project, and students are expected to start the class with the product pre-approved and at least partially completed. Students will spend time workshopping and critiquing their work in a collaborative work environment during the first nine weeks and will complete the literature portion of the curriculum during the second nine weeks.
