    Alannah Mintz, Battalion Commander

Hello Scorpion Battalion, My name is C/LTC Alannah Mintz, and I am the Battalion commander this year. As the commander, I am responsible for leading the Battalion in formations, parades, trips, etc. I also delegate authority to Gracie Christainson, the battalion Executive Officer, the Company Commanders (who lead the companies), and the team Commanders (who lead our extracurricular teams). I will be using the BAND app to post important information about uniforms and events; however, any questions or concerns about battalion functions should be directed to your company leadership first. Trust the Chain of Command. We have some major battalion events this semester, such as our annual Military Ball, Tri-meet, and other annual parades and events. There are also multiple meets/ competitions coming up soon for our JROTC teams; make sure that you are staying on top of the game with grades and behaviors so you can continue participating!

    Baker’s Blog

We are excited to start a new year of developing and motivating young people to be better citizens.I want to thank all family and friends of the Scorpion Battalion for your efforts and commitment to the JROTC Program and also welcome new cadets and new parents to the team. On behalf of 1SG Williams and SFC Bass, we are proud of our accomplishments last year and we are confident that we are well on the way to recovering from the challenges of COVID-19. Some of our notable accomplishments from last year include National Championship from the NBHS JROTC Air Rifle Team and an individual best shooter award for C/CSM Jose Gonzalez, a trip to the national championships for the armed drill team, a second- round finish for our stellar senior class, and  great JCLC summer camp where our cadets received individual awards. Even as we celebrate these successes from last year, we remain poised to push forward and achieve even more this year.

As usual, we can't accomplish anything without the caring support of our great parents and our parents association-thank you. With a healthy crop of new cadets including freshmen and transfer filling our ranks, there will be a lot of learning over the first semester and with the support and effort of of our cadet leaders, we will improve each cadet's growth and development towards becoming better citizen!

A couple of reminders as we prepare for the new year. If you have not already done so,  please consider supporting our JROTC program by linking your VIC card at Harris Teeter. For those who shop there, the Together in Education Program provides cash directly for our program simply by linking your VIC card to our code #8704 at checkout. There is no cost to you and we gain a small contribution from Harris Teeter based on the amount you purchase. The program resets every year in June, however, so those who linked their VIC card previously will need to do it again in August, please. Last year we amassed more than $1300 which was used to buy down the cost of the Military ball tickets and provided various other direct benefits to our cadets.

We are pleased with our success this year and we continue to exercise the Cadets to both look  professional and behave with dignity as we support community events. Remember that each cadet must complete 10 hours of community service through 2 events over the fall semester. We have a voluntary event planned for 8 OCT at Bellville Park for the InterCultural Fest. There will be two shifts so consider knocking out some of your hours early. There will also be opportunities closer to the holidays with Toys for Tots. As the Leland Christmas Parade has been canceled we will march in the Northwest Parade this year after we march in the Veterans Parade in Wilmington. There are also a plethora of events starting now that involve teams within the battalion including the color guard, the drill team, the rifle team, and the raider team. Please review the the BN calender of events for these events as it is updated frequently. Likewise, please get involved in extracuricular activites either with ROTC or elsewhere in school. You are writing your post-high school resume right now! Make it a good one!

Let's countinue to stay motivated and finish this year of growth and development focused on adhearing yo the Army Values of Loyality, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, integrity, and Personal change. Likewise, we will continue to strive to Be Respectful  , Be Resilient, and Be Relentless in everything that we do- B R3! Thanks for taking the journey with us and let's make it a journey that we will relish and remeber foundly in reflection.
